Information Victim Support works with Victims and witnesses of
crime providing them with recognition, support, acceptance,
confidentiality and information to assist them in dealing with the crime
they have experienced. This is provided by the office staff and volunteers
of the 40 local schemes throughout the UK. Our national office based in
London works to ensure that the rights of victims are acknowledged and
advanced in all aspects of the criminal justice system, social and
government policies. Our aim is to help victims return to their lives as they were before they experienced crime, stronger and wiser maybe but able to live without fear. Although we work very close to the police we are independent of them therefore being able to help people who for one reason or another have been victims but do not wish to report it. This is very common in Domestic Abuse cases. We are totally non-judgmental, we will not persuade anyone to make a statement, Victim Support will help all they can, until the victim feels they can continue unsupported. Victim Support receives some funding from central and local government. Other costs have to be found through fundraising. |
Last Year Victim Support Nationally offered help to 1,250,000 Victims of Crime. 280,000 Witnesses in both Crown and Magistrates Courts. We now employ 1,040 paid staff throughout the Country and 13,800 Volunteers visiting and helping Victims of Crime. Victims of Violent Crime are entitled, dependent on strict criteria, to claim injuries compensation. Victim Support has built up an expertise in assisting victims claiming compensation. Most claims take between 12 - 18 months to settle. The Services that we Provide to Victims of Crime is Free, like most Charities Fundraising is important.
